Cards advance to district semis

Webb City faces Belton at 6:15 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals of the Class 4 District 7 baseball tournament in Warrensburg.

The second-seeded Cardinals (19-13) defeated Grandview 13-0 in the first round Tuesday. Drew Vonder Haar was perfect on the mound for all five innings.

Top-seeded McDonald County is against Warrensburg in the other semifinal. Carl Junction was eliminated Tuesday by Warrensburg 4-2.

Webb City got by Frontenac (18-3) at home Friday 4-3. Luke Beverlin got the win, allowing two runs in four innings on five hits. He was relieved by Gage Chapman, and Walker Sweet closed it out.

One of Sam Weller’s two hits was a double. Vonder Haar and Gage Chapman also got two hits.

Track squads, 1st and 2nd at district, compete for state berths Saturday

The Webb City boys track and field team won the Class 4 District 6 championship Saturday at Hollister and is entered in 19 events for this week’s sectional at West Plains.

Among the qualifiers three first-place winners: Grayson Smith, pole vault; Trey Roets, javelin, and Evan Stevens, 1600 and 3200.

Webb City girls won five events as they took second place at the district meet.

Winning those first-place district medals were Abi Street, 1600 and 3200; Dawsyn Decker, javelin, and Brooke Hedger, 800.
