Volunteers needed for two Carterville Cemetery cleanup Saturdays

The Carterville Cemetery Association is encouraging volunteers to show up for two cleanup Saturdays.

The cleaning will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 29 and April 5.

Volunteers can help with raking, debris removal, and general upkeep to preserve the beauty of the historic cemetery. Bringing water, snacks, gloves, rakes and other tools is suggested.

Webb City Historical Society meeting set for April 5

The Webb City Historical Society membership meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Webb City Public Library.

The agenda includes election of three general board members, a financial report and discussion of project ideas.

Following the meeting, at 2 p.m., there will be a program, “Lucile Morris Upton and Other Fearless Female Journalists.”

Lucile Morris was an independent career woman who left home more than a century ago, worked in Denver, El Paso, and then the Ozarks, making a name for herself across the region. She used her influence to cause the preservation of icons of Ozarks history.

Alpha Delta Kappa

Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa met at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Central United Methodist Church in Webb City.

A dinner of sandwiches, salad, and dessert were served by hostesses Brooke Shaver, Shelley Kneeland and Janis Jackson. Thirteen members and one guest attended the meeting.

After dinner, Sarah Llanes, president elect, led the business meeting. Following the meeting, members adjoured and worked on children’s blankets, which will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Haven, and the Washington Education Center of Joplin.

The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Central United Methodist Church in Webb City . The program will be a guest speaker from Loving Grace, an organization supporting young women in transition from being a teenager to becoming an adult.
