The Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) staff has scheduled a series of town hall meetings to hear from consumers who are experiencing issues with the customer service and/or billing practices of Liberty Utilities.
Staff will be joined by the Missouri Office of the Public Counsel and representatives of Liberty Utilities at the town hall meetings.
The hearing closest to Webb City will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the Criminal Justice auditorium on the campus of Missouri Southern State University.
In February, the PSC Staff was ordered by the commission to investigate Liberty Utilities’ customer service and billing. Members of the commission will not be present at the Town Hall Meetings.
The commission’s order instructed staff to provide reports every three months on progress of the investigation and when staff expects to complete its final investigation report.
Consumers expressed concerns about Liberty’s billing practices during local public hearings held last year and through direct contacts with the PSC.
Consumers who need additional information may call the hotline at (800) 392-4211.
One way to enter a comment for this case is to send an email to consumerservices@psc.mo.gov. Be sure to mention the case number, OO-2025-0233.
The Missouri Public Service Commission reminds consumers that Missouri’s Hot Weather Law is in effect from June 1 to Sept. 30.
The law was created to protect all residential customers of investor-owned utilities from having their electric or natural gas service disconnected due to non-payment when electricity or natural gas is used as the source of cooling or to operate the only cooling equipment at the residence.
Regulated utility companies are prohibited from disconnecting service if the National Weather Service local forecast between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. predicts the temperature to rise above 95 degrees (heat index above 105 degrees) during the next 24 hours.
Consumers are still responsible to pay their bills. For more information on the Hot Weather Law, consumers can go to the commission’s website at www.psc.mo.gov or call the commission’s hotline at (800) 392-4211.
Consumers can also receive Hot Weather Law information from their local natural gas or electric company or local community action agency. In addition, there may be additional programs available to consumers seeking assistance to pay their utility bills.
