Dustin Miller, Webb City’s cross country and track coach, was honored prior to the home football game Friday as the Missouri State High School Activities Association Boys Track Coach of the Year.
Miller’s 2020 boys team won the state track and field championship.
Lou Mazzocco represented MSHSAA in presenting a plaque to Miller.
Miller has also been honored by the U.S. Track and Field Coaches Association and is now in the running for a regional honor awarded by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Cross Country Girls 4th, boys 5th in the COC
At the Central Ozark Conference cross country meet Tuesday at Nixa, the Webb City girls finished fourth and the boys came in fifth.
Riley Hawkins was fourth individually in the girls race with a time of 19:10, and Abi Street was 27 seconds behind her in fifth place. The other team members were Alanna Bundy, 13th; Isabelle Lopez, 28th; Emily Countryman, 40th, and Elliett Capron, 53rd.
Republic won the girls division with 74 points. Webb City’s score was 90.
Roman Borboa (16:21) and Dustin Brockmiller (16:23) practically finished together at fifth and sixth in the boys race. Other team members were Evan Stevens, 12; Mason Hedger, 34th; Jose Antillon, 44th; Blake Vaughan, 46th, and Shane Winters, 64th.
Webb City, conference champ the past seven years, scored 101, while Joplin won the meet with 58 points.
The district meet is next, on Oct. 30.
