Brooke Hedger placed fifth Saturday in the Class 5 state cross country championships at Columbia.
The junior, completing the 5K course in 18.20.20, led her team to place 10th.
Also contributing to the team’s 247 points were Emma McKinzie, Araceli Perez, Olivia Klotz and Aspen Ritchie.
“The girls ran a smart and tough race,” says coach Dustin Miller. “Brooke Hedger stayed in the lead pack to finish fifth and lowered her school-record time.”
The boys finished 15th, led by Noah Lankard (73rd individually, 16:29.80). Also contributing to the score were Andrew Dawson, Aaron Dawson, Rylan Davis and James Dalrymple.
“I’m proud of the way both teams developed leadership and selflessness throughout the season,” says Miller.
He adds that all varsity members are returning for the next season.
