DECA team members advance to state competition

Seven Webb City DECA team members have qualified to compete in the state Career Development Conference March 23-24 at the Crown Center in Kansas City.

They did so by winning second place in four categories at districts, which were held Feb. 12 at Missouri Southern State University.

The qualifiers and the categories they’re advancing in are:

  • Anthony Stump – Start Up Business Plan
  • Anthony Kulju and Anthony Stump – Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making
  • Bryson Bard and Braden Strickland – Marketing Management Team Decision Making
  • Savy Crane and Aranza Gamez – Sports and Entertainment Marketing

Alex Maturino and Kyley Senter also placed third in Travel and Tourism Team Decision Making.

Their sponsor, Brandon Rabel, notes that The Nest, a before-school storefront that sells food and drinks to student and staff, achieved DECA gold recertification status through a rigorous process demonstrating the practice of various retail and marketing standards.

A national review committee examines the documentation to determine whether a school based enterprise, such as The Nest, is worthy of gold, silver, or bronze status.

The Nest has now achieved gold certification or recertification every year for over a decade. There were only 52 stores in Missouri that received this honor. All Nest staff contributed to the effort and their names are as follows:

  • Bryson Bard
  • Saige Boulware
  • Savannah Crane
  • Anthony Kulju
  • Alexandra Maturino
  • Caitlin Norton
  • Bailey Rabel
  • Haidyn Sears
  • Kyley Senter
  • Braden Strickland
  • Anthony Stump
  • AJ White
  • Aranza Gamez
