District brackets set

Fourth seeded girls play Willard
Monday at Hillcrest

The Webb City girls are seeded fourth and will start district play at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Hillcrest High School in Springfield is the host school for the Class 5 District 6 girls.

The 19-6 Cardinals defeated the 15-10 Willard Tigers 66-45 when they met Feb. 13 in the Cardinal Dome.

Marshfield is seeded first. Also ranked above Webb City are West Plains (second) and McDonald County (third).

If the Cardinals win in the opening round, they will advance to the semifinals at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The final will be at 7 p.m. Friday, March 6.

The last game of the regular season will be Thursday at Joplin.

The 19-6 Cardinals are on a six-game winning streak. Adalyn Maxwell scored 14 points Thursday in leading the Cardinals to a 56-34 win at Ozark.

Junior Abby Sargent scored her 1,000th career point Tuesday at Neosho. She led the Cardinals in scoring with 16 as they defeated the Wildcats 73-25.

Seniors Kylee Sargent and Bailey Packard were honored Tuesday during the last home game of the season. The Cardinals defeated Aurora 69-38.

Third seeded boys play Willard

The Webb City boys are seeded third in the district tournament and will play Willard at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The Class 5 District 6 tournament will be held at Willard. Ahead of the Cardinals in seeding are Hillcrest (first) and Carl Junction (second).

If the Cardinals win, they will play the winner of Carl Junction and Marshfield game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The final will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7.

The 15-10 Cardinals will be looking for a win Friday at Joplin to end the regular season on a high note before entering the district tournament.

They saw their five-game winning streak paused Friday at Ozark, where they lost 52-41. Hudson Matthiesen led Webb City with 13 points, including 3 from long distance on four attempts.

At Neosho Tuesday, the Cardinals took a 17-14 first-quarter lead but were behind 31-23 at the half. The Wildcats went on to win 57-36. Trae Turner was the only Cardinal in double figures, with 10 points.
