OBITUARY

Don Hole

May 1, 1937 – July 13, 2024

Donald “Don” David Hole, was born on May 1, 1937, in Carthage and passed away on July 13, 2024, at Solace House in Joplin. He spent his 87 years deeply rooted in his home state, becoming a beloved figure in his community, Neck City.

Don found his calling as a traffic studies engineer with the Missouri Department of Transportation, where he worked until his retirement in 1996.

He was married to Betty Hole until her death in September 2000. He used to enjoy fishing with his brother, Royce, until his death. He has been married his beloved wife, Margaret, since July 9, 2004.

Don was the former mayor of Neck City, where he worked diligently to improve the lives of his constituents. He proudly served in the Missouri National Guard from 1956-1967. He had been a member of the New Providence Baptist Church for over 10 years, being baptized in the church as well.

Don is survived by his wife, Margaret Hole, of Neck City; children Joel Hole (Susan), Springfield, John Hole, Harrah, Okla., and Donalda Crane, Tuttle, Okla.; grandchildren Janissa Morgan (Tommy), Brittany Gerhart (Matt), Keith, Emily and Allena Crane, Cameron Hole (Ashlen), and Madison Turner (Trent); seven great-grandchildren; and several other extended family members, including his good buddy, Oscar, the dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Imogene Hole; and brothers, Dean Hole, James “Gene” Hole, and Royce “Raymond” Hole.

Don’s life was celebrated Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at New Providence Baptist Church in Oronogo. His graveside funeral service, with Bro. Larry Shoemaker officiating followed in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Casket bearers were Keith Crane, Nate Hole, Cameron Hole, Hudson Hole, Lincoln Hole and Lane Humphreys. Services were under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Tyson Kissel

May 24, 1974 – July 11, 2024

Tyson Jerry Kissel, of Webb City, passed away at the age of 49 from a sudden illness on July 11, 2024. He was born on May 24, 1975, in Carthage, to Winston Kissel and Tracy Fenimore Dunken. His family moved to Pensacola, Fla., when he was 1 year old and then to the Republic of the Philippines at age 4. When he was 9, the family relocated to Alexandria, Va. He graduated from Thomas Edison High School, where he excelled at building trades and played football for the Edison Eagles. He later attended Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Va., attaining certification in construction management and graduated as a journeyman in masonry. A proud achievement was being promoted at his first company as the youngest foreman ever at the age of 24. He continued his career in brick masonry in Virginia until relocating to Missouri in 2014. Since that time, he has been employed by Flexolaters in Carthage as a machine operator.

Tyson was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Burl and Myrtle Kissel; his maternal grandparents, Oliver “Bob” and Margaret Maxwell Brooks, and Loran Fenimore, all of Carthage; his step-mother, Vickie Kissel, of Joplin, and his beloved min-pin, Anya.

He leaves many friends and family members to mourn his loss including his mother and stepfather, Tracy and Eric Dunken, Newburg, Mo.; father, Winston Kissel, Joplin; sister and brother-in-law, Holly and Justin Overton, Miller; half-sister, Lindsey Kissel, Carthage; nephew, Aarick Rosenstiel, Pueblo, Colo.; longtime partner, Mary Walls, Webb City; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends literally around the world. Tyson will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor, his kindness, his devotion to friends and family, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A service to celebrate Tyson’s life is being planned and will be announced at a later time. Services are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park.

OBITUARY

Matt Simon

Sept. 16, 1980 – July 10, 2024

Matthew James Simon, age 43, of Oronogo, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Freeman West Hospital following a long and courageous health battle. Matt was born on Sept. 16, 1980, in Joplin to Michael and Lydia (Nelson) Simon.

Matt grew up and has lived in the Joplin area all of his life. He attended schools at Carl Junction and graduated with the class of 1999. He later worked as a machinist for thermal engineering before retiring due to ill health for the last 10 years. His favorite passstime would be doing anything with his kids. Car shows, farm chores and taking care of his daughter’s sheep were just a few of the enjoyments in Matt’s life. However, being a dad to his kids was always his number-one priority.

Matt is survived by his parents, Michael and Lydia Simon of Oronogo; one son, Camryn Simon, Joplin; two daughters, Emelyn and Ellise Simon, both of Joplin; brother Michael (Heather) Simon, Alba; niece and nephew Michael and Hayilie Simon; plus numerous extended family and friends.

Matt is preceded in death by his grandparents, Orval and Ola Nelson, as well as Bobby and Delores Simon.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 16, 2024, in Weaver Cemetery, north of Oronogo. Memorial contributions may by made to the American Cancer Society, in care of the mortuary. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

OBITUARY

Shelly Wood

Feb. 13, 1964 – July 5, 2024

Shelly Wood, age 60, of Joplin, passed away at her home Friday, July 5, 2024, from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle.

She was born Feb. 13, 1964, in Joplin.

Shelly was employed at Cardinal Scales as a purchasing clerk. She loved being outdoors, working in her yard, riding on the motorcycle with her husband and playing with her grandkids. She also loved spoiling her fur baby, Chyna.

She married Butch Wood on Feb. 29, 2020, and he survives. She is also survived by three sons, Zachary Sharon and wife Lacey, Webb City, Cody Sharon and wife Amber, Seneca, and Dakota Sharon, Diamond; one stepson, Travis Wood and wife Anna, Catoosa, Okla.; two brothers Bill Davis and Gary Davis; one sister, Theresia Danner; five grandchildren, Landon, Haylee, Braxton, Hunter, and Sammy; and numerous extended family and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 1p.m. Saturday July 20, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Seneca. The family will receive friends beginning at noon. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
