Donated photos take us back several decades

Webb City Area Genealogical Society

Several photographs taken in the 1970s by David Cash were recently shared with the Webb City Area Genealogical Society by Ned Mayes.

The first photograph is of the former Salvation Army building located at 208 E. Broadway. The building is no longer standing.

The second and third photographs are of the 1901 Century Building, the 1900 T. C. Hayden Building and the 1900 Clark & Dodson Building, located at 25-29 S. Main St. Those buildings are now being renovated.

The forth photograph is of the Wells Fargo office building, located near the corner of Church and Webb Streets. This building was the home of the Webb City Water Department before its demolition.

The fifth photograph is of the Unity Building, located at the southwest corner of Daugherty and Main Streets. It was known mostly as the Merchants and Miners Bank.

The sixth photograph is of the First Presbyterian Church, located at 511 W. Broadway.

The seventh photograph is the Coyne Building, located at 110 W. Broadway. It is the current location of the Paint Chips and Glitter Boutique.

The last photo is of the Zinc Ore Building, at 8 S. Main St. Retail businesses, including Gambles, were on the first floor. Max Glover’s law office was on the second floor, along with a doctor’s office, until 1950. The Sisters of Pythias had a lodge hall on the third floor. The Sentinel occupied the ground floor from 1983 to 2021. It’s now Integrity Custom Homes.

Webb City Area Genealogical Society

WCAGS members staff the Genealogy Room on the third floor of the Webb City Public Library. Current hours are noon to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the Genealogy Room.
