OBITUARY

Dortha Adams

July 6, 1936 – Aug. 13, 2024

Dortha Adams, age 88, of Webb City, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, following a short illness.

Dortha was born July 6, 1936, in Oronogo to Chester and Edna (Wilson) Carey. Dortha lived in the Webb City area most of her life. She married Daniel Adams on Sept. 24, 1954, in Oronogo. Together they raised two daughters. Dortha was a loving wife and an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Dortha worked more than 40 years in healthcare and was the director of medical records when she retired from McCune Brooks Hospital. Dortha was known for her strong work ethic, honesty and quick wit. She was an avid reader and loved cooking for family and friends. Dortha was a pillar of grace, love and strength to all who knew her.

Dortha was a devoted Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Webb City, where she was blessed with many friends.

Dortha was preceded in death by her parents; husband Daniel; four brothers, Bill Carey, Fred Carey, Bud Carey and Bob Carey; and two sisters, Nellie Seeber and Alice Frew.

She is survived by two daughters, Gina Monson (Rick) Webb City, and Valerie Glaze (Oran Baker) Joplin; one granddaughter, Stephanie Alburty (Jonathan) Joplin; two great-grandchildren, Aspen and Rowan; and chosen granddaughter, Anna Loveless (Asher); as well as numerous extended family and friends.

The family wishes to thank all the physicians, nurses and staff at Freeman Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion.

The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, at the Mt. Hope Cemetery open air pavilion near the Veterans Memorial.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.

Connie Moore

Jan. 8, 1958 – Aug. 16, 2024

Connie Marie Moore, 66, of Carthage, passed away on Friday evening, Aug. 16, 2024, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, after months of failing health. She was born on Jan. 8, 1958, in Webb City, to the union of Marion and Irene (Pike) Alumbaugh.

Raised in Alba, Connie was a graduate of Webb City High School, class of 1976. On June 9, 1978, she was united in marriage to James Leroy “Jim” Moore and together they shared 45 years before his passing on Aug. 28, 2023. Connie was a devoted homemaker throughout her life.

Connie’s artistic spirit shone brightly through her love for arts and crafts projects. Her hands were rarely still as she poured her creativity into every piece she made, leaving a legacy of beauty and craftsmanship that will be treasured by her loved ones for years to come.

She is survived by a loving family who will miss her dearly: her mother, Irene Rose and husband, William, of Carthage; her sister, Marion Ette, Aurora; and her brother, Timothy Alumbaugh and wife, Diane, Lamar; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Connie was preceded in death by her father, Marion Alumbaugh; and her beloved husband, Jim Moore.

Private services will be held at Friends Cemetery in Purcell. Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Sue Thompson

April 3, 1948 – Aug. 14, 2024

Jennie Sue Thompson, of Webb City, passed away Aug. 14, 2024, at the age of 76. She was born in Baxter County, Ark., on April 3, 1948, to Joshua Anderson and Lillie Ethel Thompson. She was the youngest of five sisters.

Sue graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1966. After high school graduation, she moved to Joplin and attended Missouri Southern State University.

Sue obtained a position as a switchboard operator at AT&T for several years, and then obtained a position at Shelter Insurance, beginning as a secretary and working up to an insurance adjuster, where she worked for 25 years. After her retirement, she worked for Walmart for many years.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Wilma Morris and Dorothy Kemp. She is survived by her sisters, Zelda Lance and Marva Lewis; son Sam Goade; grandchildren Maddie, Taylor, Samantha, Drew, and Carter; 14 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Sue was a long-time member of the Leawood Church of Christ.

She loved reading, her furry friends, and especially her people. Family and friends will miss her tender heart and the joy she brought to many.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at Leawood Village Church of Christ, 2840 E 46th St., Joplin. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
