Following their last-second homecoming win and road win at Carthage, the Cardinals are looking forward to their home matchup Friday with Willard.
It will be the last home game of the season – and a double-header to boot, with the boys and girls varsity games back-to-back.
Starting Tuesday at Parkview, the Cardinals just have four road games left before districts begin on March 3 at Willard.
On homecoming Friday, the Cardinals withheld Republic’s second-half surge and came out on top.
As Tim Workman report from the score table, “Carson Anderson sent the homecoming crowd into euphoria hitting a three from in front of the Cardinal bench in the final second for a 49-48 win.
“Inbounding at mid-court, Hudson Matthiesen took the pass and threw cross court to a wide-open Anderson who rose and found nothing but net.”
Matthiesen led Webb City with 13 points, followed by Trae Turner with 11. Holden Johnson added 9 while Carson Anderson and Jackson Adams both contributed 7.
At Carthage Tuesday, the 14-7 Cardinals took a 24-21 halftime lead and built on it in the second half to win 55-46.
Trae Turner led Webb City with 13 points. Jackson Adams added 12, and Holden Johnson made 10.
Webb City girls came back from their loss to Republic last week with a 68-46 win Tuesday at Carthage.
Abby Sargent led Webb City with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Brecklynn Sargent and Whitlee Keith both added 10. Kenzie Horn and Addie Burns both had 9.
Webb City suffered a 50-43 home loss last Thursday against Republic.
Abby Sargent scored 19 and and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the Cardinals. Brecklynn Sargent added 12 points.
The 16-3 Cardinals will take on 11-8 Willard Friday in the Cardinal Dome. They’ll be on the road next week: on Tuesday at Parkview and Thursday at Ozark.
Districts will be the first week of March at Hillcrest.
