Cities without a state are in Missouri
Jan. 23, 1961 – Nov. 17, 2024
Well, folks, it’s me, Scotty narrating from the other side. Born on Jan. 23, 1961, in Carthage, I’ve finally hung up my hat on Nov. 17, 2024. As a charismatic, fun-loving man, I’ve spent most of my life perfecting the art of laughter and good food. I’m known for my wit, usually served with a side of humor, which I’ve crafted while working around the sizzling pans and boiling pots. After delighting the folks of Joplin with my culinary prowess, I called it a day in 2006.
I was never married, but did have a marvelous relationship, and will be carrying all of the great memories with me into this next chapter.
Now, I did my fair share of moving around – Webb City being one of my favorite stops, but Joplin remained my home for many years. And boy, did I treasure my family. My heart swells as I recall my wonderful son, Chet; my loving sisters, Christy, Cassy, Crystal, and Stacey; my brothers, Kenny and Chad; my little angels, Ella, and Addi; my best buddy Chaz; and the best grandchildren a guy could ask for. They filled my heart with so much joy. I am, however, joining my dear parents, Mary Sue and Choppy, who’ve been waiting for me on this side.
I urge you to share a joke, and a hearty laugh in my memory. Remember me as the funny, witty, charismatic Scotty you’ve always known. I hope to continue hearing your laughter from up here. Making people smile was my life’s work, and I hope to continue doing so in memory. A celebration of life will be held Friday, Nov. 29, 2024 at Simpson Funeral Home. Go on, folks, keep the joy alive!
Oct. 28, 1941 – Nov. 21, 2024
Rosemary “Patty” Seward, age 83, of Webb City, passed away peacefully on Nov. 21, 2024. Patty was born on Oct. 28, 1941, in Joplin to her parents Godfrey and Mary (Fleming) Busick. She married John Seward, on July 3, 1959, in Joplin.
She owned and operated One Stop Wedding Shop in Duenweg for several years. Patty was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, cake decorating and crafting. Time at the lake with John, the kids, their cousins, and friends – camping, fishing, and simply being together – was a cornerstone of her life, filled with joy and laughter. These cherished moments, surrounded by the people she loved most, were the essence of her happiness. Of all the things in her blessed and beautiful life, she was most proud of the people in it: John, the kids, every member of both sides of the family, and countless friends who were too many to name but never forgotten in her heart.
For all who were fortunate enough to know her, Patty was the embodiment of love. She had a unique way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and cherished. Friends quickly became family in her presence, as her warmth and kindness were impossible to resist.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Godfrey Busick; five sisters, Betty Mickey Miller, JoAnn Busick, Jennie Baker-Miller, Delores Simon-McCoy and Bobby Sue Collings.
Patty is survived by her husband, John, of the home; one son, John Seward Jr. and wife Jan, Diamond; one daughter, Lori Lowrey and husband James, Oronogo; two grandsons, Austin Lowrey and wife Kerrie, and Tanner Seward and wife Kelsey; two granddaughters, April Mitchell and Emily Carden and husband Adam; five great-grandchildren, Maddox Lowrey, Lennox Lowrey, Tatum Carden, Bronson Carden and Jaxon Carden.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Burial was in Osborne Cemetery.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
