A benefit breakfast will be held Friday to support a Webb City firefighter and his family meet unexpected medical expenses.
According to Fire Chief Andrew Roughton, firefighter Nathan Lipsey’s wife, Shayla, had complications with her pregnancy and was admitted to the hospital late last month. On May 29, Shayla had an emergency C section and baby Dante was born at 25 weeks and placed in NICU. With the longevity of baby Dante staying in NICU until full term, medical bills are increasing. Meanwhile, Lipsey will be splitting time between the hospital and his home, where he is taking care of their other three children.
The benefit breakfast will be held from 6 to 10 a.m., Friday, June 13, at the fire station, 506 S. Ellis St. Biscuits and gravy with sausage patties and a drink will be served for $5.
Webb City is one of three locations where the Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization will hold public hearings next week.
The open houses, also in Carl Junction and Joplin, will be come-and-go events where community members are encouraged to provide their insights about the future of the region’s transportation system.
JATSO is the transportation planning agency for the Joplin metropolitan area, as designated by the federal government, and its goal is to provide for regional mobility.
It also updates the Joplin Metropolitan Transportation Plan every five years.
Those attending the public hearings will be asked to respond to a survey focusing on safety perceptions, specific problem areas and areas for improvement.
The survey can also be taken online here through the end of this month.
The public hearing here will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, in the Mining Days Community Building.
The Carl Junction open house will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 16, at the Carl Junction Senior Center.
The Joplin open house will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, on the fifth floor of City Hall in the Council Chambers.
The Joplin Health Department will hold a free First Impact teen driver program on Tuesday, June 24, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Joplin History & Mineral Museum, 504 S. Schifferdecker Ave.
First Impact is an educational program for parents/guardians and teenage drivers, both recent, new or soon-to-be drivers, to learn more about safe driving.
The class is free, but registration is required. Teen participants will receive car-related giveaways after the class.

The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
