The girls basketball season started Monday in the Cardinal Dome with a 69-48 loss to the Lebanon Yellowjackets.
The Cardinals came back after a 10-point deficit in the second quarter to trail by only 5 (29-24) at the half. The Yellowjackets, however, outscored the Cardinals 40 to 24 in the second half.
Addie Burns led the Cardinals with 14 points, and Jenna Shulz added 8. Adalyn Maxwell had 9 points and 4 rebounds. Whitlee Keith had 7 rebounds.
It was Grant Berendt’s first game as the Cardinals’ coach.
It’s been announced that Webb City juniors Jaeli Rutledge and Savannah Crane were selected to the Missouri High School Volleyball Coaches Association Class 5 All-State Team.
Coach Rhonda Lawrence also announced other post-season honors for her players:
First team all-district
Jaeli Rutledge, Savannah Crane, Kirra Long
Second team all-district
Avery Gardner, Mia Lenker
All COC first team
Jaeli Rutledge, Savannah Crane, Mia Lenker
All COC second team
Kirra Long, Jaylee VanBecelaere, Avery Gardner
The Cardinals’ volleyball season ended with a 28-9-1 record in the quarterfinals with a loss to Jefferson City, which went on to place second at state.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
