The family of Frances Pyle invites all of her friends and acquaintances to celebrate her 95th birthday on Saturday, Dec. 28.
The come-and-go reception will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 5 S. Pennsylvania St. No gifts, please.
Frances “Frankie” Peek Pyle was born in 1929 in a home in Webb City to Della and Samuel “Gus” Peek. She has lived here her entire life. One of three siblings, her brothers were Bobby Lee and Sam Peek. She attended Webb City schools and graduated in 1948.
After graduation, she was employed by Southwestern Bell, which was located in the current Webb City Police Department. She was one of the familiar local operators you heard when you wanted to make a telephone call. She retired as registrar at Parkwood High School after 25 years.
She is a current member of P.E.O. Chapter AY. Through the years, Frances was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Webb City Garden Club, and Webb City Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW).
Central United Methodist has been a cornerstone in her life, providing her with many wonderful memories. She is the longest living member of the church, with nearly 80 years of involvement, incuding The Seekers Sunday school class, WSCS, Workers for Christ, Wednesday night dinner and devotion, and many vacation Bible schools.
Frances married Paul Pyle on June 21, 1953, and they were together for 44 years before his passing. She has two children, Paula Pyle Moore and Kevin Pyle; a son-in-law, Mike Moore; and Shaley Michelle Moore, of Lee’s Summit, her only grandchild.
As promised, proceeds from the annual Badges & Burgers event, sponsored by Webb City and its employees, were dispersed Thursday.
Police Chief Don Melton was accompanied by Erin Turner, community development director, and Jeremy Denton, assistant fire chief, as he delivered four checks.

The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
