MaKenna Hawkins' drawing wins conference best of show

MaKenna Hawkins, a junior at Webb City High School, has won the Central Ozark Conference Art Exhibit Best of Show award in the 2D category.

The exhibit was on display through March in the Longwell Museum at Crowder College.

MaKenna’s drawing was picked for first place among pastels before it won best of show among all two-dimensional entries.

MaKenna was in the Sentinel last September when she painted the south wall of Hotstone Pizza.

Tickets on sale now for April 20 Sweet Notes

The annual Sweet Notes event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in the Webb City High School Boys Gym.

The boys gym is a clue that this year’s Sweet Notes will be bigger and better than the 10 previous Sweet Notes.

The notes part of the event name refers to solo and group performances of popular songs.

Desserts are the sweet part.

In addition to desserts, students will be serving other items cooked up by the culinary department.

To the theme of “Turn Back Time, ’80s Edition!” choir students will be transporting patrons back to the ’80s with a selection of chart-toppers and power ballads from this iconic era.

A silent auction, open before and during the show, will include tickets to Branson attractions and shows, products from local businesses, birthday party packages, and tickets to attractions in Tulsa, Springfield and Kanas City.

Sweet Notes is hosted by the Webb City Choir Boosters and Webb City High School Choral Department. It plays a crucial role in supporting the Webb City Choir Booster Club scholarship program for graduating seniors and helps provide resources for the choral program that are not covered by district funding or student fees. These resources include stage sets, props, music, choreography and alterations.

Tickets are $15 per person if purchased by Friday, April 12, or $20 after April 12 and at the door. Tickets can be purchased online.
