The Webb City Council scheduled its regular meeting on Monday for an unknown reason at The W Club.
Outside the door of the meeting room was something on the wall, perhaps a picture, covered in white.
As the meeting began, everyone moved to the hall for what turned out to be an unveiling of a plaque honoring Jim Dawson, a 4th Ward council member, for building The W Club and donating it to the city.
Dawson and the Dawson Heritage Foundation have, among other things, donated the splash pad and rail-themed pavilions that are also in King Jack Park.
The main feature of the plaque is a depiction of the W Club paddle, which was made for Dawson in 1960 when he was a senior in high school by an underclassman, Wayne Hodges.

In 2025, The W Club Indoor Sports Facility was established through the vision and generosity of James S. Dawson and the Dawson Heritage Foundation, whose shared commitment to the growth and well-being of Webb City, Missouri, has left a lasting mark on generations.
Jim Dawson’s contributions to Webb City extend far beyond this facility. Through years of leadership, service, and unwavering support, he has played a vital role in strengthening the community, investing in its people, and creating opportunities for youth and families to thrive.
The W Club stands as a testament to his belief in the power of community, athletics, and shared spaces that bring people together. His generous donation of this building reflects not only his commitment to Webb City’s future but also his deep appreciation for its past and present.
With gratitude and respect, we honor and thank James S. Dawson and the Dawson Heritage Foundation for their enduring support, vision, and remarkable contributions that continue to shape Webb City for years to come.
