Kim DeMoss, the city clerk for Webb City the past 19 and a half years, swore in her replacement during the City Council meeting Monday.
Taking the oath of office was City Hall veteran, Peggy England. She has been the municipal court clerk for the past 20 years and was with the water department for about six months before that.
At the top of England’s to-do-list is find someone to take the job she’s vacating. “It’s listed,” she says about the job opening.
England has filled in for DeMoss as deputy city clerk and will continue training with her, at least until DeMoss’ last day, Friday, Dec. 19.
Mayor Lynn Ragsdale noted that DeMoss has shared her home phone number in case she’s needed for help on anything that comes up after she’s retired.
A retirement party for DeMoss will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at City Hall.
Asked how many mayors she’s served with in close to 20 years, DeMoss replied, “Two,” John Biggs and Ragsdale.

Tuesday was the first day for candidates to file to have their name on the April 6 election ballot.
True to his word, Ragsdale filed for reelection Tuesday morning. On Nov. 24, he told council members that any rumors they may have heard that he was going to run for county commissioner or state representative were false.
The four council members whose terms will expire in April are Ray Edwards, 1st Ward; Alisa Barroeta, 2nd Ward; Jerry Fisher, 3rd Ward, and Jim Dawson, 4th Ward.
The deadline to file is Tuesday, Dec. 30.
