Thru June 30 at five Webb City schools – enrollment not necessary
School’s not out until Wednesday afternoon, which only leaves one and a half days before the start of summer school on Friday, June 3, in the Webb City R-7 School District.
The summer free meal program will be held in conjunction with summer school, which will run from June 3 to June 30.
Anyone 18 years old and younger – whether enrolled in summer school or not – is eligible to eat breakfast and lunch at any of the five summer school sites: Madge T. James Kindergarten Center, Webster Primary Center, middle school, junior high and high school.
For more information about summer school, visit www.wcr7.org/summerschool.
Joplin only opening Schifferdecker pool again
The splash pad in Webb City’s King Jack Park has been open for some time, but if you want to go deep, three area swimming pools are opening for the season starting Saturday, May 28.
Schifferdecker Aquatic Center in Joplin will be open seven days a week from 1 to 6 p.m. It will stay open until 8 on Fridays. Admission is $5.50 for those 15 and under, and $6.50 for those 16 and older.
Bulldog Beach in Carl Junction will be open from noon to 6 p.m. seven days a week starting Saturday. It continues to be operated by the Joplin Family YMCA. Day passes cost $3.50.
Carthage Municipal Pool will be open noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays. Fair Acres Family YMCA operates the pool and its members get in for free, along with children under 4. Otherwise, admission is $2 for ages 4 to 15, and $3 for ages 16 and above.
The kiddie pool in Carthage’s Central Park will open for the season on Tuesday, May 31.
Joplin has two aquatic centers but is only opening Schifferdecker because only 42 lifeguards have been hired so far, while it takes 100 lifeguards to operate both centers. There aren’t even enough lifeguards to open all of Schifferdecker. The section with the lazy river and two slides will be closed for now.
Click here to apply for a lifeguard position, which pays $10.30 per hour.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
