Ancestors, Legends and Time

Look… up in the architecture

Jeanne Newby

Do you ever look up when you visit downtown Webb City? Do you notice the beautiful architecture on the old buildings along Main Street? Take a walk and give your mind a treat.

Some of the old buildings are named. Some have the date they were built. Some have unique designs around the windows and others have unusual rooftop designs.

Venture off Main Street to Webb Street and look up! Take your children or grandchildren on the walk to see what Main Street has to offer. Look up!

Zinc Ore, the name atop this building at 8 S. Main St., Zinc Ore, is a strong clue as to what built this city.

The second brick building built in Webb City still stands in the 200 block of N. Main Street.

A lot of us appreciate the Bradbury Bishop Fountain, but Jeanne actually worked behind the counter making sodas while she was in high school. She knows everything about Webb City and is a former member of the Webb City R-7 School Board.
