Emre Schwartz selected all-district Readers Theatre

Emre Schwartz was recently named to the MSHSAA District 6 All-District Cast for Readers Theatre.

This honor, sponsored by the Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri, is similar to making the all-district team for a sport.

We are incredibly proud that Emre was one of only nine students the judges chose for this award,” says Nikki Owens, assistant speech and debate coach.

Mark Elliott reappointed to MSSU Board of Governors

T. Mark Elliott has been reappointed by Gov. Mike Kehoe to the Missouri Southern State University Board of Governors.

Elliott was first appointed to the board in 2018. He is on the budget/audit committee and chairs the personnel/compensation committee.

He is the agency sales manager of the Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance office in Webb City.

He is a Carl Junction High School graduate and attended Drake University and MSSU. He was first elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 1986 and served until his retirement in 2000. He served as the Republican Whip from 1988-94 and was the Ranking Republican on the House Committee on Banking from 1988-2000.

Virtual public hearing set for necessity of new Liberty generator

Liberty Utilities is required to receive a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity from the Missouri Public Service Commission before it can begin construction of a new generator at its State Line Power Station.

The commission will hold a virtual local public hearing about the CCN at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 16.

The fifth annual Missouri Good Neighbor Week, a celebration of neighborly connection and community care, is set for Sept. 28 – Oct. 4. Established by the Missouri Legislature in 2022, this week encourages Missourians to strengthen ties with those around them through acts of kindness, shared events, and everyday support that builds safer, more vibrant neighborhoods.

Last year, more than 42,000 acts of neighboring were documented across the state, from block gatherings to simple gestures of support. The 2026 goal is 50,000 reported acts of neighborliness.
