Mayor Lynn Ragsdale told City Council members Monday that he’s looking forward to great Christmas season.

It starts the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 30, with the Mayor’s Christmas Lighting Extravaganza in King Jack Park, where parks department employees are already installing the displays.

Bryan Waggoner, parks and recreation director, said there will be 10 new lighting displays and three times as many lights as there have been on existing displays. He said there were over a million lights last year so that’s quite an increase.

Tickets for the Polar Bear Express go on sale online this Saturday, Nov. 2. The Thursday-through-Saturday weekend rides on Streetcar No. 60 will begin Dec. 5 and end Dec. 21.

A Classic Christmas is the theme for the Christmas parade, which will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4. This will be the first year that the city is organizing the parade since taking it over from Project Graduation.

Ragsdale urged organizations interested in entering floats to call city hall (417) 673-4651.

In other action during the regular meeting, the council:

• Gave final approval to the 2025 fiscal-year budget, which takes effect Nov. 1.

• Accepted first reading of a bill to rezone 715 and 717 N. Main St. (across from Webster Primary Center) from commercial (C2) to single family (R1).

The Planning and Zoning Commission voted unamiously on Oct. 21 to advance the proposal to the city council.

Making the request are Benjamin and Tiffany Beard of Carl Junction. They were represented at the P&Z meeting by Chris Beard, who said the plan is to renovate the existing house, which sits in the middle of the combined property. A new house will be built on both the north and south sides of the existing house.

• Was updated on three surplus police vehicles that will be listed for sale on Nov. 1 on govdeals.com. Police Chief Don Melton said the plan to sell the vehicles during the current fiscal year didn’t work out. If the council approves his plan to buy three new police vehicles during 2025, there will be three more surplus vehicles.
