Mineral School educated community south of Alba until 1961

Dennis Bowers contributed a 1959-1960 photo of students and their teacher at the one-room Mineral School.

Mineral School was located two miles south of Alba on O Highway. It was built in the late 1800s.

Between 1938 and 1947, the school was closed, students were transported to other school districts. The school reopened the fall of 1947 through consolidation in 1961.

That’s when Mineral School joined Lakeside, the original Pleasant Valley, Garden Dell and Shiloh school districts to form the new Pleasant Valley R-6 School District.

Students were transported to the Pleasant Valley school building located in Brooklyn Heights.

The Mineral School building was sold at auction, on Aug. 26, 1961. It was used as a residence for many years and was torn down about 2020.

We also a neat 1917-1918 image with no names.
