Judges are serious as they taste and grade slices of pie.
The pie contest at the Webb City Farmers Market on Saturday, Nov. 18, was a big success.
The judges awarded the first-place wooden spoon trophy to Fauna Hartley, who made a salted honey apple pie. Laura Pointer’s deep dish with crumble apple pie won second place, and Lauren Stadler’s Applachian apple pie, with a sculpted crust, won third-place.
Each contestant brought a second pie for the silent auction.
The Harvest Basket drawing was also a popular fundraiser. So much so, that market director Roen Procter says a Harvest Basket might be given away monthly.
Proceeds help pay for the new sides for the pavilion to keep the market open year-round and help participants in the Women Children and Infants program buy healthy food at the market.

In addition to the pies taste-tested by judges, entrants submitted duplicates to be sold by silent auction.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
