Mount Hope announces new way to search for loved ones' graves

Travis Boyd, general manager of Mount Hope, demonstrates the new online way to search for loved ones in the cemetery.

There are more than 17,800 burial sites in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Now it’s easier to locate the grave a loved one there.

A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday to announce the launch of a revised website. Right on the homepage is a Find a Loved One search field that locates burial sites on an overhead map of the cemetery.

Susie Crutcher, representing Wreaths Across America (Dec. 14 this year) noted there are 1,200 veterans buried in the cemetery.

Brad Baker, a member of the Mt. Hope board of directors, recognized Travis Boyd, general manager, for persisting in making it easier to find the plots.

Boyd was also in charge of constructing a columbarium, which is visible from South Madison  Street/Range Line Road. It has 50 niches that can hold the ashes of up to 100 people.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is held Wednesday for the new columbarium at Mount Hope Cemetery.
