The Missouri Humanities invites you to a Friend-Raiser on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Joplin Historical Neighborhoods Museum.

Admission to the museum, which opened in April, is normally $10 for adults and $5 for children age 6 – 12.

Those accepting the invitation will learn about the Missouri Humanities mission and programs while exploring the stunningly restored Schifferdecker and Zelleken homes between Fourth and Fifth streets on Sergeant Avenue.

There will also be drinks and hors d’oeuvres.

The event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. Register here.

Although the invitation is to everyone, members of the Webb City Historical Society are especially welcome.

Missouri Humanities recently granted over $10,000 to the society to create a collaborative website on Webb City history.

The site is currently being loaded with photos and documents from the Webb City Area Genealogical Society, which also includes all the historical society materials collected and archived by Jerry Pryor, a former long-time volunteer archivist.

Also on the site, folks with Webb City roots will also be able to upload their own photos, stories, and documents, which will be published upon review by the web site administrator.

All content, including family members, historic photos and information about mining, streetcars, schools, and much more will be searchable.

The new site should be online by the end of the year at webbcityarchives.com.

Missouri Humanities is also the organization coordinating “Spark! Places of Innovation,” a traveling Smithsonian exhibit that will likely be hosted by the historical society at the Webb City Public Library in the fall of 2027.
