New use proposed for old shirt plant

Cycling apparel to be stored and shipped

A company that sells cycling wear has plans to use part of the old Elder’s Shirt manufacturing plant to store inventory and ship orders.

On Monday, the Webb City Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to send the application for a special use permit to the City Council.

Toby Teeter, representing Hustle & Flow Opportunity Fund, told commission members that the growth of his firm requires relocating from a small store in Joplin to a larger facility.

The firm sells items on its website, urbancycling.com and through Amazon. It has also recently started ozarkcycling.com.

Teeter said there will be two employees receiving shipments and filling orders, either from website customers or to Amazon. From 100 to 500 items per day are shipped in cases to Amazon.

Nearby residents indicated they were satisfied by Teeter’s plans for securing the building.

City Administrator Carl Francis said the request will likely be on the council’s Sept. 13 agenda. A special use permit is good for two years and can be renewed.
