North Heights fielded a salty bunch in 1910

Webb City Area Genealogical Society

North Heights School in Carterville fielded a tough-looking football team in 1910.

The school was on North Pine Street (near the water tower site today). It was constructed in 1889, but we’re not sure if the football field was near the school or elsewhere.

In the picture of the football field, it looks like some sort of wall is behind the patrons, but it does not look permanent? Wish we could place the old barn in the background.

There was a lot of open ground, as well as mines, on North Pine Street when the photo of the school in the distance was taken.

Sentinel bound volumes are now in the Genealogy Room

The WCAGS has accepted ownership of the complete collection of bound volumes of the Webb City Sentinel, from 1983 (after the fire) until the final issue on Dec. 30, 2020.

Those issues can also be viewed on microfilm, along with much older issues.
