OBITUARY

James Hooper

March 8, 1943 – March 17, 2023

Mr. James Edward Hooper Sr., 80, of Carthage, , departed this life on Friday morning, Friday, March 17, at St. Luke’s Care Center in Carthage.

James entered this life on March 8, 1943, in Jasper, born to the union of the late Hannibal and Maydean (Armstrong) Hooper. He was raised in Jasper and has resided the majority of his adult life in Carthage. He was employed by Carthage Crushed Limestone for several years and most recently by Schreiber Foods. 

On Dec. 7, 1991, James was united in marriage to Diana Sue Russell, and together they have shared the last 31 years. He enjoyed word puzzles, fishing, bowling and visiting area restaurants. James was a faithful member of Grace Pointe Assembly of God in Carthage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Hooper; and an infant sister, Dorothy Hooper.

James is survived by his wife, Diana Hooper, of the home; a son, James Hooper, Jr., Carthage; a niece, Cindy Moore, Alba; and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, March 22, in Nashville Cemetery, with Pastor Jeremiah Johnson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home.

Mr. John Bradley Morgan, 56, of Webb City, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 21, at his residence. Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home.

Doris Thompson

Sept. 11, 1932 – March 20, 2023

Doris Jean Thompson age 90, of Jasper, passed away on Monday, March 20, at her home. She was born on Sept. 11, 1932, in Saffordville, Kan., to Fred L. Kennison and Adeline (Starbuck) Kennison. Doris attended Lamont (Kan.) Grade School until seventh grade, and at Sheldon, Mo., for four years.  She then completed two years at the Kansas City School of Business. She retired in 2008 as the secretary/receptionist at the Tri-County Cerebral Palsy Center in Webb City.

Doris married Jess J. Thompson on Oct. 54, 1957, in Irwin, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1988.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Donald Kennison. 

Doris is survived by her six children, Jerry Owen, Ginny Allison, Susan Goldberg, Darryl Thompson, Vernon Thompson, and Rodney Thompson; along with 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will have services at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home.
