OBITUARY

Martha Carsten

Nov. 19, 1929 – Feb. 10, 2023

Martha Dean Carsten, age 93, of Webb City, passed away on Friday, Feb. 10, at Mercy Hospital Joplin. She was born in Little Rock, Ark., to Benjamin Taylor and Maud (Ball) Taylor on Nov. 19, 1929.

She loved to square dance, play cards with her senior group and listen to music.

Martha is survived by her sons, Robert Carsten Jr, Webb City, and Larry Carsten, Joplin; and one grandchild, Katheryn Pikey. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Carsten Sr.

The family will have a visitation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2023 at Simpson Funeral Home. After the visitation, the family will have a private graveside committal at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

OBITUARY

Joe Hensley

Jan. 23, 1947 – Feb. 11, 2023

Mr. Joseph Oren “Joe” Hensley, 76, of Joplin, formerly of Webb City, departed this life on Saturday, Feb. 11, in the comfort of his home after a recent decline in health.

Joe entered this life on Jan. 23, 1947, in Webb City, born to the union of the late Harold and Teenie (Lindsey) Hensley. He was a lifelong area resident and a 1965 graduate of Webb City High School. Early in his working career, Joe worked in Tulsa, Okla., at North American Aviation as an inspector. For the majority of his life, Joe worked in the trucking industry for both Tri-State and CFI, retiring in 2004 from CFI as director of operations. Joe loved his family and was always lending a helping hand to those in need.

Joe is survived by his two children, Leslie Hensley (Deron Risinger), Biloxi, Miss., and Jacob Hensley (Becka Hensley), Joplin; two grandchildren, Sophia Hensley and Owen Hensley; a brother, Harold Grant Hensley, Webb City; two sisters, Judy Goswick (Al), Webb City, and Sally Massey, Joplin; and a host of other family and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at The Ramsey Event Center in Joplin. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Private burial will take place at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home.
