With traffic backed up, Missouri Department of Transportation workers clean up oil that was spilled Wednesday afternoon on the eastbound side of the roundabout.

Oil spill causes traffic delay

As far as the eye could see, eastbound traffic was tied up Wednesday waiting for a slippery substance to be cleared from the roundabout.

Police Chief Don Melton says a truck carrying machinery spilled a small amount of oil – which was spread as other vehicles drove through it.

By the time police arrived, Melton said a motorcyclist had slid and laid down his motorcycle. No other vehicle was involved. Emergency medical personnel checked out the driver at the scene, but he refused to be transported to a hospital.

Webb City public works brought a material to absorb the oil for the responding Missouri Department of Transportation crew to use for the cleanup.
