Winter brings activities at Lakeside to a halt

The swinging bridge looks cold in both photos, but in the one below Center Creek is frozen over.

When is the last time you saw Center Creek frozen enough to walk out on it? Newspaper articles from the early 1900s make it seem the kids were ice skating all of the time.

These great pictures of Lakeside Park on Center Creek were donated by Sharon Peek, along with some school photos from her Gretz family line.

The photo with the slide also shows the bath house, where patrons could rent suits, caps or towels. The trolley bridge can be seen in the background. Some of that bridge remains to this day.

The swim slide, next to the bath house, leads to ice-covered Center Creek.

Sentinel bound volumes are now in the Genealogy Room

The WCAGS has accepted ownership of the complete collection of bound volumes of the Webb City Sentinel, from 1983 (after the fire) until the final issue on Dec. 30, 2020.

Those issues can also be viewed on microfilm, along with much older issues.
