The Oronogo Board of Aldermen continued preparation for two large storm water projects that are getting started.
Notices to proceed on both projects were issued during a special meeting on Nov. 25.
An ordinance amendment was passed Monday to correct the omission of a provision for delays caused by winter weather. That was the project known as Phase 2, including collection of storm water coming off John Street, an unpaved street north of Central Street at the east edge of mined land that has been restored. Paving the street is part of the $834,253 contract.
Public works superintendent Tony Cantrell reported that closing is expected soon on the one remaining tract necessary for Phase 1. Jeff Asbell Excavating and Trucking received that $362,189 contract to primarily build a third detention pond to keep storm water east of Route D from flooding properties to the west.
Construction bids are scheduled to be opened in January for replacement of the lift station on Route MM. The purchase of two properties for the new site was approved on Monday by ordinance.
Mayor Charles Wilkins reported that the installation of highway welcome signs is in process. He explained there are strict guidelines for sign placement on highways.
Leaf pickup in Oronogo will continue until Dec. 31.
Cantrell also reported that most unreadable street signs and a few old stop signs have been replaced.
Wilkins reported that he has been told by a few people that they appreciate the new stop signs in Jason’s Place.
