The Oronogo Board of Aldermen’s only regular meeting in February on Monday was rather brief. It was the board’s only February meeting because of an ordinance approved on Jan. 27 that eliminates the second meeting of the month, which was on the fourth Monday of each month.
Tony Cantrell, superintendent of public works, reported that the new Dollar General store is near completion. It was mentioned that the existing Dollar General will close later this week, as the transition begins.
Both stores face Highway 96 from Jason Place Boulevard. The old one is on the east side of the street, while the new one is on the west side.
Cantrell also reported that he’s been in contact with a contractor planning to build new houses west of County Road 215.
The board passed an ordinance amending the city’s personnel policy to state that the position of an employee who fails to come to work for two days without notice will automatically become vacant.
The board also approved renewal of the workmens compensation insurance policy with Missouri Employers Mutual. The annual premium is increasing by $410 to $14,651, which is partly attributable to the city’s payroll increasing by $25,974 to $675,273.
The board’s next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 10.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
