Oronogo gas system sale to Spire comes up for a vote Tuesday
Tuesday is when Oronogo voters will have their say on whether the Board of Aldermen is correct in agreeing to sell the municipal natural gas utility to Spire Missouri Inc. for $620,000.
During a recent town meeting on the topic, it was explained that Spire and another potential buyer approached the city with similar offers.
Spire’s offer includes $520,000 for the existing system and $100,000 to reimburse the city for gas lines being extended to two major subdivisions.
If voters approve the sale, the final price will be evaluated by the Missouri Public Service Commission.
The city will continue to receive revenue derived from natural gas sales if the deal is approved because Spire will have to pay the city a franchise fee.
Webb City residents are among Spire’s customers.
There are only two elections in Jasper County Tuesday.
In additon to Oronogo’s question, Joplin voters are being asked to approve a local use tax.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
