Pillars of Education recognized

In a nod to the tradition represented by the pillars from the old high school that still stand in front of the current high school, the Webb City R-7 Schools Foundation annually honors the Pillars of Education.

The 2025 Pillars of Education are:

  • Arlene Hardcastle served 18 years as secretary for the high school counselors. (She was unable to attend.)
  • Eric Johnson was with the district for 24 years as boys basketball coach (including the 1997 state championship team), boys and girls tennis, and baseball. He was inducted into the Webb City Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.
  • George Mayes, a 1970 graduate of WCHS, was a quarterback and for 35 years has been on the sideline as a member of the chain gang (only missing two games).
  • Debbie Noland graduated from WCHS in 1976 and returned to the district as a teacher. After one year of teaching first grade, she taught second grade for another 28 years at Eugene Field Elementary School and Webster Primary Center. (Unable to attend, she was represented by her fellow teachers.)
  • Jamie Roth initially went into banking after graduating from WCHS, but in 1991 she became the secretary at Webb City Junior High School. During her 24 years in that position, she served under several principals.
