He encourages anyone with information about the incident to call the police department at (417) 673-1911 or send an email to info@webbcitypd.org.
Melton released the following information about the incident.
On Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at 05:12 hours, officers with the Webb City Police Department were dispatched to the 1300 block of W. Austin St. in reference to gunshots heard in the area.
As officers were en route, dispatch advised of a medical call at the Neighborhood Market at Stone’s Corner. The caller, a 32-year-old male from Webb City, advised that he along with a passenger, a 24-year-old female from Sarcoxie, in his vehicle had been shot while in the 1300 block of W. Austin St.
Webb City officers went to Stone’s Corner to assist with the investigation. Both the caller and the passenger in the vehicle were transported by ambulance to local hospitals. The 32-year-old male had non-life-threatening injuries; the 24-year-old female had life-threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition.
The vehicle the caller and passenger were in was towed to the Webb City Police Department, where officers applied for a search warrant to search the vehicle.
Additional officers arrived in the 1300 block of West Austin St., where they held a perimeter.
Assistance was requested from JSOG, a special response team consisting of law enforcement officers from multiple agencies within Jasper County.
JSOG arrived on scene and began calling for the occupants of 1302 W. Austin St. to exit the residence. Four occupants exited the residence and were detained: a 31-year-old Webb City man, a 27-year-old male from Joplin, and two women from Joplin, ages 27 and 30.
No other occupants were located inside the residence, which was sealed. Webb City officers applied for a search warrant with the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office. In the afternoon, Webb City officers served the search warrants on the residence and vehicle.
Melton reported that all individuals associated with this incident have been detained or interviewed. Webb City officers and Jasper County deputies are continuing the investigation.
