Unseen today are the tons of red bricks that were used for the foundation of the Webb City post office. Although not the subject of the photo, this happens to be one of the best photos of the ill-fated Blake Theatre.

Post office construction photographer also captured the spectacular Blake Theatre

A series of photos taken during construction of the Webb City post office 109 years ago is interesting for what can be seen in the background of the photos, as well as the progression of the federal project.

In this photo, taken on Dec. 2, 1915, the Blake Theatre building can be seen. That structure burned 15 years later, in May 1935. The Civic theater was later built on the Blake lots. The front of The Civic still stands today across Daugherty Street from the post office.

You can see more original photos documenting phases of construction of the post office in a display case inside the east entrance to the post office.

WCAGS members staff the Genealogy Room on the third floor of the Webb City Public Library. Current hours are noon to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the Genealogy Room.
