Rezoning of the former Liberty Baptist Church property at 201 E. Aylor St. from single family residential (R-1) to multi family (R-3) received initial approval Monday by a unanimous vote of the Webb City Planning and Zoning Commission.
Brian and Jodie Philliber are owners of the property, which is half the block divided east to west. They say they have no immediate plans, except for hoping that the church continues to be leased.
Josh Dorris has announced on Facebook that a new congregation, The Gathering-Webb City, will hold its first service there on Sunday, Feb. 1.
Philliber noted that the building was rebuilt after a fire in 1980 and that a Bible that was singed during the fire is on display in the sanctuary.
No one spoke in opposition to the rezoning request. It will now be on the Webb City Council agenda for approval as an ordinance.
