Quarterfinal round is the end of the soccer playoff road this season
Webb City soccer’s historic run past districts to the state playoffs ended Saturday at Cardinal Stadium when Glendale came from behind for a 2-1 win.
Senior Alex Flores gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead early on in the Class 3 quarterfinal. But Glendale’s Falcons scored two late goals for the win.
The Cardinals hosted the Class 3 District 6 tournament and won it by defeating Belton 5-3 on Nov. 3. It was Webb City’s first district title since 1999.
Flores tied a team record by scoring 29 goals this season. The record was set last year by Tristan Barroeta.
In addition to Flores, the Cardinals are saying goodbye to four other seniors, Nehemias Alas, Felipe Perez, Issac Wade and Connor Black.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
