The new roundabout on Highway 171 at Highway 96 between Carl Junction and Asbury is now open to traffic.  However, the lane exiting westbound is blocked until signals warning about the rail crossing are installed. This photo is looking east toward Oronogo. Carl Junction is to the right, Asbury to the left.

The project began in June to relocate the intersection farther away from the Kansas City Southern railroad tracks and convert the intersection to a multi-lane roundabout. In addition, an approximately 26-mile stretch of Route 171 between the Missouri/Kansas state line and I-49 was resurfaced.
