Sales tax holiday weekend starts Friday, Aug. 1

Missouri’s annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday will start Friday and continue through Sunday.

Shoppers in Webb City can make eligible purchases without paying the normal 8.1% sales tax.

It used to be that Webb City was among the few cities participating by not collecting their sales tax during the holiday. But since 2023, other cities have had no choice but to participate.

Of the total 8.1% sales tax collected here, Webb City’s combined sales taxes (general 1%, transportation 1/2%, storm drainage and parks 1/2%, and capital improvement 1/8%) amount to 2.5%.

State and county taxes account for the remaining 5.6% of the 8.1% total.

Sales tax won’t be collected this weekend on the following categories:

  • Clothing – any article having a taxable value of $100 or less
  • School supplies – not to exceed $50 per purchase
  • Computer software – taxable value of $350 or less
  • Personal computers – not to exceed $1,500
  • Computer peripheral devices – not to exceed $1,500
  • Graphing calculators – not to exceed $150
