Fitzgibbon’s kickstarted Crescent Hotel book is for sale
Nine months ago, we were telling you about Sean Fitzgibbon’s Kickstarter campaign to publish a book he’d been researching and painting for years, “What Follows Is True: Crescent Hotel.”
Now, we can report that everyone who purchased a book during the Kickstarter campaign has received their copy of the book – and it’s now on sale to everyone else.
The campaign goal of $11,300 to get the book printed was raised the first day. At last check, 346 backers have contributed a total of $28,803.
Sean has kept his backers posted throughout his adventure, up until the books arrived at his garage on pallets and he started shipping them out.
A Webb City native, Sean became interested in the Crescent Hotel’s history when he visited it in Eureka Springs, Ark., as a child.
He has shared his research – about the hotel and its dark days as place where cancer patients were taken advantage of – during speaking engagements and art displays in Northwest Arkansas, where he lives with his wife, Willow, and daughter, Sadie.
There will be a book launch party and exhibition of Sean’s original paintings for the book from 5 – 8 p.m. Friday, July 29, at the Community Creative Center’s McCoy Gallery, at 505 W. Spring St., in Fayetteville. Four other artists are being featured through Aug. 6 during the center’s “The Great Beyond – Comic Art in the Ozarks.”
Before then and after, you can buy the book online
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
