For the second consecutive competition week, all three of the Webb City show choirs have advanced to finals.
“This is an incredible feat, especially considering the quality of programs we have been up against,” says Melinda Benham, choir director. “It is always nervewracking to compete against schools such as Jenks and Broken Arrow, as they have historically strong programs.”
In the finals at the Joplin Sptlight Invitational last week, Webb City Singers won first runner-up, Bella Vocé was fourth runner-up, and DoMENance was 5th runner-up.
In the preliminary awards, DoMENance was first in the bass division, and Bella Vocé was second in the treble division.
Maddox Wood won best solo, and DoMENance was best closer.
Karoke duet winners were Desiree Stuart and Lakelyn Stuart. Lydia Thiemen was best Karaoke soloist.
Benham notes that the Webb Cit Singers are seated No. 8 in the national varsity rankings.
She encourages everyone to cheer on the showchoirs Saturday when they compete in The-Sho at Neosho. Their scheduled performance times are: 8 a.m. DoMENance, 10:05 a.m. Bella Vocé, and 4:45 p.m. Webb City Singers.
The Webb City High School JROTC rifle teams have left for Camp Perry, Ohio, for the Army JROTC Service Championships.
Lt. Col. Dustin Elder is taking 16 cadets on three teams – two in the sporter category and for the first time a precision team.
Last year they took first and third place in the sporter category. So they are going back to defend their regional title.
After shooting Friday and Saturday, they will return Sunday.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
