The concrete is set and grass will soon be coming up along the new East Street sidewalk.
You can now walk on the new sidewalk from the roundabout north to Daugherty Street, where it connects to an existing sidewalk to Main Street.
The $598,797 project was partially paid for with a $444,974 grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation.
Now what’s next for East Street?
City Administrator Carl Francis says the city will apply for a second time to receive a construction grant from the state to build a roundabout that will replace the hanging stoplight at the intersection of East and Daugherty streets.
Depending on the grant amount, curb and gutter will be installed and East Street will be widened for a center turn lane.
Francis mentions that the sidewalk was designed with a curve as it approaches Daugherty Street to coordinate with the future roundabout.
There’s one new business that has spoken for the property between Flat Creek and Simple Simon’s Pizza (which is under construction), but the owner does not want a public announcement yet.
There’s real estate sign at the access to 16 acres that are available between the back end of Flat Creek and the railroad line.
