Rotary honors first responders on Sept. 11 with Smashburger Express

The Webb City-Carl Junction Rotary Smashburger Express is set to deliver to area first responders on Thursday, Sept. 11.

WCCJ Rotary will prep everything that morning and begin cooking around 10 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, located north of the Webb City High School. Rotarians will make calls to the various agencies to verify meal numbers – all custom grilled to order.

The Carl Junction third graders are decorating the meal sacks for the first responders. Last year, WCCJ Rotary delivered over 200 smasburger meals to the heroes.

This is the fourth year for this event, which originated as a way to honor first responders in conjunction with Sept. 11 remembrances.

WCCJ Rotary moved away from the ceremonial part and expanded the operation by showing appreciation through food. They built smashburger meals and then delivered them to responders throughout the area.

Jordan Bolinger is president of WCCJ Rotary.
