Softball districts are underway

The softball season has slipped right into districts as second-seeded Webb City is playing already.

The Cardinals (24-11) face seventh-ranked Raytown (6-10) at 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at Nevada (139 W. Highland Ave.).

Nevada, the host school, is seeded first and faces Raytown South at 1 p.m.

Succeeding games are: McDonald County (4) vs. Carl Junction (5) at 3 p.m.; Belton (3) vs. Warrensburg (6) at 5 p.m.; and then Webb City vs. Raytown.

Semifinals are Saturday, and the final is at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The Cardinals won their last home game Thursday, 8-2 against Monett. They lost 2-4 Monday at Kickapoo.

Volleyball districts start Tuesday

Webb City is seeded second behind Carl Junction in the Class 4 District 6 tournament that gets underway Tuesday at Branson.

The 19-6 Cardinals have one game left in the regular season, which also happens to be at Branson on Thursday, Oct. 12.

When they return to Branson Tuesday, the Cardinals will play Parkview (7) at 4:30 p.m. At the same time, Carl Junction will play McDonald County (8). The rest of the bracket includes Springfield Catholic (4), Willard (5), Branson (3) and Hillcrest (6).

Semifinals will be Wednesday, followed by the final at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21.

It’s been an up-and-down week for Webb City. The Cardinals lost at home 3-0 to Republic Thursday. Then they went undefeated Saturday to win the Willard tournament.

They won 3-0 at home Monday against McDonald County before losing 3-0 Tuesday against Ozark.
