Southwest roundabout corner consolidated but new owner not ready to build right away

The Webb City Council on Monday gave final approval to two ordinances important to the purchase of the southwest quadrant of the roundabout.

Burns Investments has been in the process of acquiring and clearing several properties on the highly-visible corner for a prospective development, most likely a gas station/convenience store. Those properties are now consolidated by one of the ordinances.

The other ordinance vacates a portion of Elliott Street.

Burns Investments can now apparently close on the sale of the property.

But City Administrator Carl Francis said he has heard from the firm buying the property that there are no immediate plans to build on it.

The council also approved first reading of a council bill to issue a special use permit for a house at 903 W. Daugherty St. to be used as an art gallery and coffee shop.

Owner Taylor Kubicek confirmed that he has obtained permission to have customers park across the street on the Frisco Church parking lot.

A budget-revision ordinance was passed on both readings.

Six months into the fiscal-year budget, sales tax receipts are as expected – which isn’t good. That means the conservative estimate that sales tax revenue would be flat has come true.

Normally, sales tax revenue increases from year to year.

In fact, Francis said it may be necessary for employees to forego a cost-of-living pay increase, which they’re used to receiving.
