Gibson Berendt is a Missouri Hoop Shoot champion 

Gibson Greeno Berendt recently won the state championship in the Elks Hoop Shoot in her age group.

The 11-year-old became the Missouri champion in the girls 10-11 age group at Eureka by sinking 22 of 25 free throws.

She qualified for state by winning the Webb City hoop shoot and the district at Ozark.

Gibson, sponsored by the Webb City Elks Lodge, now goes on to compete at the regional level in Paducah, Ky., on March 15 against girls from Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee. The regional winner will move on to the national contest in late April in Chicago.

Gibson is the daughter of Grant and Emily Berendt, of Joplin, and the granddaughter of Clarence and Debbie Greeno, of Webb City. Her dad is the Webb City Lady Cardinals varsity coach.

 

Tour de (Crazy) Llama bike ride set for April 12 

Registration is open for Bike Walk Joplin’s Tour de Llama, a 15-mile urban cycling adventure on Saturday, April 12, that will feature stops at both of Crazy Llama’s coffee stores, in Joplin and Webb City.

The event will start at 8:30 a.m. at Empire Market. After the drive south to the Joplin Crazy Llama, the route will continue north on the Frisco Greenway Trail to the Webb City Crazy Llama, then turn around and go back to Empire Market.

All ages and abilities are welcome. Registration includes an event t-shirt and 50% off drinks at both Crazy Llama locations. Register by March 28 to receive an event t-shirt.
