Marilyn Kay Hughey and Thomas Lee Clark were married July 31, 1971, in the First Baptist Church of Carterville.

Though styles may change dramatically through the years, love will always be love. These photos of local sweethearts represent joyful wedding days through the decades.

We wish you and your sweetheart a Happy Valentine’s Day.

William W. Waggoner and Mary Louise Burch were married Aug. 25, 1942, in the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Burch, 410 E. Main St., Carterville. When granddaughter Molly Bittle married in 2006, a heart-shaped swatch was cut from the lining of Mary Louise’s gown and sewn into the hem of Molly’s (“something old” for the bride, and Grandmother Waggoner got to be a part of the wedding, too).
This photo of Eric Johnson and Mary Sue Cuthbertson was taken during their engagement (obviously in the ’70s). They were married Aug. 16, 1974, in the United Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg, Kan.
Wally Spracklen and Lois Watson were married in 1956 in Central United Methodist Church.
